One of Swansea’s most prestigious student accommodation developments has been fitted with a state-of-the-art fire safety, CCTV and intercom system thanks to the team at Plexus FS.
True Student, a vibrant student accommodation company that combines private and shared living with multiple social spaces, on-site gyms, study zones, in-house pizzerias and more, now has a site in Swansea.
Joining similar locations in Birmingham, Glasgow, Newcastle, Liverpool and many other UK cities, True Student is changing the way student accommodation works and thanks to Plexus FS, staff and residents are safe in the knowledge that they are protected 24/7.
“This has been a great project for us to work on,” said Business Development Manager Tom Balfry. “We work throughout the UK on new-build student accommodation projects, so to be part of such a large, 4-block development in our home City is fantastic.”
With a clear focus on safety and security, the Plexus FS team worked through the primary M&E Contractors RDM Electrical & Mechanical Services to install the following.
Fire Safety:
The team installed a Gent Vigilon fire alarm system across all 4 accommodation blocks at the Morfa Road site.
The networked system included 5 main panels, 300+ Units as well as a comprehensive disabled refuge system.
CCTV:
With over 100 Hikvision IP cameras covering both the internal as well as external aspects of the site, vandal-proof dome cameras and turret cameras were used, both of which were vandal-proof and weatherproof – essential in marine environments such as Swansea.
The system also featured a large NVR (Network Video Recorder) that controls and records all cameras as well as Colorvu, a low-light imaging technology that provides pin-sharp, full-colour HD footage even in low-light conditions.
Intercom System
As a 24/7 site, controlled access for individuals and vehicles is vital, so the Plexus FS team integrated an intercom system that featured card access for residents and staff, as well as a “buzzer” system for visitors.
Monitoring & Maintenace
While the system has been successfully handed over to True Studnet for management, the Plexus FS team also manage all aspects of monitoring
for the CCTV and Fire Alarm System, as well as planned maintenance for:
– Fire Extinguishers
– Emergency Lights
– Automatic Gates
– CCTV
-Fire Alarm & Disabled Refuge Points
The project started in early 2020 and was finished by September 2021 in time for the first students to arrive.
