Ysgol Crug Glas is a special school based in the heart of Swansea, providing specialist education for pupils aged 3-19 years with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties and complex Autistic Spectrum needs.

Over recent months, the school has upgraded the main entrance area to the school and as part of the upgrade, we installed a new Fermax Access Control & Intercom system.

“The school entrance area is a busy environment in the mornings and afternoons,” said Tom Balfry of Plexus FS, ” and there can be over 50 vehicles at any given time dropping off and collecting the pupils, so a system that provides clear communication and sharp CCTV images was vital to maintain security as well as the flow of traffic entering school grounds.”

The Fermax System was selected as it not only met this requirement but its vandal-resistant, weatherproof design and ease of use made it the perfect choice for the school.

“The system is simple yet very powerful,” said Tom, “and the school reception team can see which vehicle is requesting access via the Gate Access Control and has the option of remotely granting access, seeing and talking to the driver, or keeping the gate locked and refusing access.”

In addition to the vehicle gate access, the Plexus team also installed a Pedestrian Access System which uses a similar setup to alert the reception team when a person wants to access the site.

At the main entrance door to the school, the team installed a digital keypad entry system for approved staff to gain access to the school.

This complements the same system in the reception foyer, which provides another layer of security before people can enter the main body of the school.

“Security is of paramount importance in any school,” said Tom, “however, at Crug Glas, the vulnerability of the pupils means the systems in place need to be robust and thankfully, the Fermax System with its state-of-the-art mag-lock technology is the perfect fit for this environment.”
