A new CCTV system is providing improved security inside and outside Port Talbot Indoor Bowls Centre after Swansea-based Plexus Fire & Security completed a dedicated installation.
Operated by Celtic Leisure, the indoor bowls facility is located at Vivian Park in Sandfields and provides a dedicated venue for bowlers in the Port Talbot area. With members and visitors using the facility year-round, Celtic Leisure wanted a modern CCTV system that could provide clear, reliable coverage across the building and its exterior.
Plexus began work at the venue in November 2025, designing and installing a new ten-camera Hikvision ColorVu CCTV system. The team delivered the complete project within two weeks.
Tom Balfry, Business Development Manager at Plexus FS, said, “This was a new CCTV installation, so we had the opportunity to look at the venue as a whole and determine where cameras would provide the most useful coverage.”
“The objective was straightforward. Celtic Leisure wanted good visibility around the building, internally and externally, using equipment that would provide clear footage when it was needed.”
Six Hikvision ColorVu cameras were installed around the exterior of the building, providing surveillance of key areas around the venue. Four additional cameras were positioned internally to give staff additional visibility within the bowls centre.
Hikvision ColorVu technology was selected for the project because it can capture full-colour images in low-light conditions. For an external CCTV system that needs to provide useful footage during darker mornings, evenings and overnight, this gives the venue an important advantage over conventional systems that may revert to black-and-white images as light levels fall.
Christie Jones, IT Manager at Celtic Leisure, said, “We wanted to improve CCTV coverage at the bowls centre and make sure we had a system suited to the venue and the areas we needed to monitor.”
“Plexus worked with us to identify the right camera positions and completed the installation within two weeks. We now have coverage across both the inside of the building and the external areas, which gives us greater visibility across the site.”
The Port Talbot project forms part of a wider working relationship between Celtic Leisure and Plexus FS. The Swansea-based fire and security specialist supports Celtic Leisure across a number of its facilities, providing CCTV and other safety and security solutions tailored to each site’s requirements.
For Plexus, that means considering how a building is used, where potential gaps in surveillance exist and what staff need from the system once the installation team has left.
Tom added: “There is no benefit in adding cameras simply to increase the number on a system. Each camera needs a purpose. At the bowls centre, we were able to design the installation around the building and give Celtic Leisure the coverage they needed from ten carefully positioned cameras.”
