When thousands of people use the same leisure facility for swimming, training, fitness classes and indoor sport, security requirements rarely stand still.
At Aberavon Leisure & Fitness Centre, Plexus Fire & Security has worked alongside Celtic Leisure for many years, adapting and expanding its security systems as the facility’s needs have changed.
The £13.4 million centre opened on Aberavon seafront in January 2016, replacing the former Afan Lido. Its mix of swimming, fitness, sports and leisure facilities creates a varied environment to protect, from busy internal areas and poolside spaces to the external car park.
Rather than a single major project, Plexus has carried out a programme of security work at the centre over the years, adding new cameras, improving coverage and upgrading equipment when required. The result is a security infrastructure that has developed alongside the facility.

Plexus now maintains a Hikvision CCTV network of more than 50 cameras across the centre. External cameras mounted on columns provide coverage of the car park, while internal CCTV monitors key areas including the gym, sports courts, poolside and fitness suite.
Earlier in 2026, Plexus also upgraded and replaced the centre’s NVR recording equipment, helping ensure the extensive CCTV system continues to provide reliable recording and access to footage.

One of the most recent additions was a small panic alarm extension within the fitness suite. Plexus installed two additional panic buttons, connected to the existing panic alarm system, giving staff and users another way to raise an alert if someone feels unsafe or needs assistance within the gym environment.
Tom added, “Sometimes a relatively small addition can make an important difference. The two panic buttons are a straightforward example of listening to what the client needs and adapting an existing security system to provide additional reassurance in a particular area.”
The continuing relationship between Celtic Leisure and Plexus FS demonstrates the value of long-term security system maintenance and planned upgrades.
From CCTV installation and surveillance to panic alarms and recording equipment, Plexus continues to support the centre as its requirements develop, helping protect the staff, customers and facilities at one of Neath Port Talbot’s major leisure venues.
