One of Aberavon’s popular family attractions has strengthened its security following the installation of a new CCTV system by Swansea-based Plexus Fire & Security.
Plexus FS was appointed by Celtic Leisure to design and install the new surveillance system at Aqua Splash on Aberavon seafront. Located on Princess Margaret Way, the outdoor splash pad features more than 30 water features, including fountains, jets and waterfalls, attracting families from across Neath Port Talbot and further afield.
The installation was completed in March 2026, ahead of the attraction’s busiest period of the year, and from the start of work to final commissioning, Plexus completed the new CCTV system in less than seven days.
The system comprises 16 Hikvision CCTV cameras, with 11 external Hikvision ColorVu cameras providing coverage around the attraction and five internal cameras monitoring key areas inside the facility.
Tom Balfry, Business Development Manager at Plexus FS, said, “Aqua Splash is a busy public attraction, so Celtic Leisure needed a system that gave staff good visibility across the site and was straightforward to use during normal day-to-day operations.”
“We designed the CCTV installation around how the team actually manages the facility, looking at where coverage was required, how staff would monitor the cameras and how the wider Celtic Leisure team could access the system when needed.”
As part of the installation, Plexus fitted a dedicated spot monitor in the café, allowing staff to view internal and external cameras without leaving their work area to access the network video recorder in the office.
This gives the team an immediate overview of activity around the site and provides a practical way to monitor key areas while carrying out their normal duties.
Christie Jones, IT Manager at Celtic Leisure, said: “We wanted a CCTV system that gave our team better visibility across Aqua Splash and was easy for staff to use. Plexus understood what we needed and delivered the complete installation in less than a week.
“The monitor in the café has been a useful addition for the team, while remote access gives us greater flexibility when we need to view the system away from the site,” he continued.
The CCTV system is fully networked, allowing authorised Celtic Leisure personnel to access it remotely when required. Plexus also installed external CCTV signage around the site to support Celtic Leisure’s GDPR responsibilities and clearly inform visitors that CCTV is in operation.
For Plexus, the project demonstrates why effective CCTV design needs to consider more than camera specification alone. Positioning, coverage, image quality, accessibility and the way staff interact with the system all influence its effectiveness.
Tom added: “The important part for us was delivering a system that worked for Aqua Splash in practice. The combination of external ColorVu cameras, internal coverage, the café monitor and remote access gives Celtic Leisure a system that supports the way the site is managed every day.”
The installation adds Aqua Splash to the growing number of organisations across South Wales supported by Plexus FS.
